Le conditionnel
The French conditional conjugation is used to express hypothetical situations, polite requests, and to indicate actions that are dependent on certain conditions. It corresponds to the English “would” or “could” form. The conditional mood is formed by adding specific endings to the verb stem, which is usually the infinitive form of the verb. 1
Here is the conditional conjugation of regular verbs:

It’s important to note that irregular verbs have their own conjugation patterns in the conditional tense. Here are a few examples:

It’s worth mentioning that the conditional mood can also be used in si clauses (conditional sentences) to express hypothetical or unreal conditions. For example: “Si j’avais plus d’argent, j’achèterais une nouvelle voiture” (If I had more money, I would buy a new car).
